Richard Stout opened his home and studio and was most generous with his time talking about his wonderful career and experiences as an artist. Long celebrated as one of the regional masters of Modernism, but also known nationally and internationally for his technical mastery, creativity, and craftsmanship, Richard Stout has been making art for over fifty years. Trained at the Art Academy of Cincinnati and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, he had his first solo exhibition in 1958.
In addition to his artistic achievements, Richard Stout enjoyed a long and distinguished teaching career. He served as a Fine Arts Professor at the University of Houston for many years, nurturing and influencing younger generations of artists.
Stout has regularly exhibited his work in various regional shows in Texas, but also across the United States, and venues in Europe and Asia. His work has been included in selected museum collections, including The Dallas Museum of Art; The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; The Menil Collection, Houston, Texas; the McNay Museum, San Antonio, Texas; the Huntington Gallery at the University of Texas, Austin; and the Kupferstich-Kabinett Museum of Art in Dresden, Germany.
