Since 1981, Visual Arts Alliance has been a driving force in Houston’s creative landscape—supporting artists, inspiring audiences, and building an inclusive visual arts community. Through juried exhibitions, educational programs, and opportunities to connect, we empower artists at every stage of their journey. Visual Arts Alliance (VAA) is a member-driven nonprofit organization dedicated to elevating the visual arts through professional exhibition opportunities, educational programming, and inclusive community initiatives.​

Our History

Founded in 1981 in Houston, Texas, Visual Arts Alliance (VAA) began as a grassroots effort to create meaningful opportunities for artists to connect, exhibit, and grow. Over the past four decades, VAA has grown into a respected, member driven nonprofit organization committed to advancing contemporary visual art through exhibitions, education, and community engagement.

From its earliest days, VAA has been powered by volunteers and guided by a belief in the transformative power of art. Our founding members envisioned a space where artists, regardless of background or experience, could share their work, receive professional critique, and build lasting relationships within the arts community.

Since its founding, VAA has produced more than ninety professionally juried exhibitions, showcasing the work of both emerging and established artists. These exhibitions have been curated by respected art professionals and have helped elevate the visibility of Houston’s vibrant creative scene.

In addition to exhibitions, VAA has expanded its programming to include:

  • Studio visits, gallery tours, and museum experiences
  • Artist talks and critiques
  • Educational presentations on art resources and practices

Throughout our history, we have remained committed to inclusivity, accessibility, and artistic excellence. VAA welcomes artists, collectors, students, and anyone curious about the visual arts. We believe that art is universal and that every creative voice deserves to be heard.
