After a 33 year career sitting behind a computer for Corporate America, I now happily refer to myself as President/CEO and Chief Blowtorch Operator of my art endeavor.
I fell in love with encaustics shortly after I retired. There are so many ways to manipulate it and use it with mixed media components, and the fact that it is a challenge to tame really clicked with my lifelong passion of getting things to work.
Since I wanted to bring some of my computer skills into my artwork, I incorporate digital elements from PhotoShop (for example) onto encaustic (wax) media, many times using multiple layers. My inspiration comes from all over – friends’ conversations, things around the house, extracting revenge against my childhood Spirograph whose gears always slipped or pen marred — these are just a few inspirations behind some of my recent pieces.
