Wendy Wagner Studio Tour

March, 2012

Wendy Wagner graciously hosted VAA for a tour and talk in March at her studio. She discussed her large works in progress for her upcoming show and shared with members her process and how she develops her artwork.  Wendy also gave us a demonstration of her design process using her current computer programs for her animated digital works. Then we toured another area displaying her “Qwerkys”, the soft sculptures she has designed and constructed.

A quote from Wendy about her work: “I embrace youthful innocence through complex and accomplished artistic methods, both hand-made and high-tech. This has become my distinctive make-believe world that I express in painting, drawing, ceramic, soft sculpture and animation”.

Her themes have been inspired by her childhood, pets, family and fantasy. She uses a variety of mediums including pencil, colored pencil, tinted gesso, acrylic paint and oil paint. She has expanded her vocabulary to installation and making her own patterns and sewing soft sculpture interpretations of elements in her paintings, ceramics and animations creating an entire “wendy world”.

Wendy was the 2008 Hunting Art Prize Winner and her art was exhibited in the fall of 2011 at the Houston Fine Arts Fair in a solo show sponsored by Darke Gallery.

Wendy will have a show in 2012 in Austin, Texas at “Women and Their Work”.
