Join VAA as art historian and curator Cindy Lisica discusses the works of Guillermo Gomez-Peña & Coco Fusco, Kehinde Wiley, Mickalene Thomas, and more. She will highlight the role of the artist, the public, and the institution in significant works like Wiley’s portrait of President Obama and Fusco & Gomez-Peña's performative artwork. Cindy dives into details and symbolism in their work as it relates to colonial histories, its acceptance by the general public, and the rethinking of public art monuments, justto name a few! Cindy Lisica is an independent curator, writer, and art history professor at The Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) in Savannah,GA. She holds a PhD in History and Theory of Art from the University of the Arts London, MA in Modern and Contemporary Art from California State University, Long Beach, and BA in Integrative Art from The Pennsylvania State University. She has previously taught at University of Pittsburgh, University of Houston, and Houston Baptist University, operated two commercial art galleries, and worked in museums including The Andy Warhol Museum and Tate Britain.
