On Saturday, December 6, Visual Arts Alliance (VAA) presents Jason Villegas who will be discussing Mineral Spirit, his installation at Art League Houston. The final in the VAA’s 2014 lecture series, the free program begins at 9:45 at Art League of Houston, 1935 Montrose Boulevard. The installation features a spirit-like form, a recurring character in the artist's work, breaking through the brick patio in the ALH Sculpture Garden, and emerging from the ground, ready to the anoint the world with its crystal and mineral power. Inspired by the idea of string theory and spiritual vibrations, the installation explores how science and spirituality can, at times, not only share the same space, but also develop along the same line.
Mr. Villegas, who was voted best artist in 2005, is a contemporary visual artist. His work includes sculpture, painting, drawing, video and more. Mr. Villegas teaches at Art League of Houston and has had exhibitions nationally and internationally including world-renowned museums and nonprofit spaces such as the Contemporary Arts Museum of Houston, El Museo del Barrio, Exit Art, Los Angeles County Museum of Art and Ruffino Tamayo Museum.
