Juror’s Statement & Awards
About the Juror
Our juror, Volker Eisele, has had a lifelong interest in art. Following high school, he studied medicine in Munich and while a medical student opened his first art gallery, Graphic Box.
In 1971 he and his wife came to America to further his medical training. After receiving his residency in anesthesiology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City in 1975, they moved to Houston to establish a private medical practice. He has been a physician ever since.
In the late 1980s he joined the William A. Graham Gallery as a partner. In 1998 he opened ArtScan Gallery, and partnered with Sean Rudolph. Together, over the following five years they curated more than thirty mainly thematic exhibitions. Now named Rudoph Blume Fine Art / ArtScan Gallery it averages 7 to 8 exhibitions annually.
Rudolph Blume Fine Art / ArtScan Gallery champions and exhibits work in a broad spectrum of contemporary artistic practice, from conceptual works to large-scale installation and time-based performances. The gallery is home to innovative, singular, and pioneering exhibitions across a variety of media and genres, including painting, sculpture, photography, video, drawing and printmaking.
The gallery has been recognized by the Houston Press as “The Best Houston Art Gallery.
