Kelly Montana in Conversation with Erik Hagen: Journeys through Time

    11:00 amWebinar
    Program events

Curator Kelly Montana, the Assistant Curator at The Menil Drawing Institute and artist Erik Hagen explore the intersection of art and science in front of Hagen’s 48” by 72” painting. Using augmented reality, the painting transforms into a video in which the viewer virtually flies through a ghostly Houston-on-the-sea, set in the year 2550.

Erik Hagen is a professional engineer and artist with work in the Houston Museum of Natural Science. Kelly Montana most recently organized the Menil’s Brice Marden exhibit, and is interested in the intersection of art, history, and politics. They will discuss the artist’s practice of layering work atop previous work as a metaphor for deep time and exploring humanities place in the cosmos through painting and video.

The VAA program will occur as a live webinar with time for Q&A on June 13 at 11:00 A.M.  The video will be broadcast live to The Visual Arts Alliance's Facebook page and all to their YouTube page.
