Studio Visit – Jane Eifler

VAA members and guests were welcomed into the studio of Jane Eifler. VAA president, Matt Adams, reported that VAA has provided funds to Art League Houston to help with two separate exhibitions in their Sculpture Garden Installation Series. This is a significant event that is sure to increase the prestige of VAA throughout the art community.

Jane Eifler spoke of her creative journey since the 1960’s. She began with an interest in abstract expressionism and showed several examples of artists that influenced her. She did not have a relationship with drawing and turned to collage work to express her creativity. Standard techniques including the use of non-archival, re-positionable adhesives, were her preferred methods. However, upon being represented by McMurtrey Gallery, she was told she needs to use archival quality materials in her constructions. Not wanting to replace all the adhesives in her work, she turned to ‘new media’ and had her compositions scanned into a digital format. From there, prints were made, mounted on PVC board and displayed as inkjet prints.

This was a very revealing, honest review of a successful artist’s career!
