Kelly Montana in Conversation with Erik Hagen: Journeys through TimeProgram events
Artist Erik Hagen and Curator Kelly Montana, the Assistant Curator at The Menil Drawing Institute, explore the intersection of art and science in front of Hagen’s 48” by 72” painting. Using augmented reality, the painting transforms into a video in which the viewer virtually flies through a ghostly Houston-on-the-sea, set in the year 2550. Erik is a professional engineer and artist with work in the Houston Museum of Natural Science. Kelly most recently organized the Menil’s Brice Marden exhibit, and is interested in the intersection of art, history, and politics. Curator Kelly Montana and artist Erik Hagen will discuss the artist’s practice of layering work atop previous work as a metaphor for deep time and exploring humanities place in the cosmos through painting and video.
The VAA program will occur as a live webinar with time for QA on June 13 at 11:00 A.M. Please check the VAA events calendar for directions on how to view the program as we get closer to the date.
