Crafting your Artist Statement + Artist Bio
Led by Elizabeth White-Olsen, Founding Director of Writespace

Confused about the difference between your artist biography and artist statement?

Wondering why artists even have to write them?

Whether applying for a project grant or consideration into a gallery, or whether your art will be showing at a coffee shop, studio space or museum, you will most likely be asked for an artist's statement and bio to accompany your work. Some artists feel like they've said everything they want to say through shape, form, and color, so why say more? These feelings are understandable, but, at the same time, being able to write a clear, inspired artist's statement and biography can be crucial to your success. And, creating one can be fun and can more deeply connect you with your vision.

Come join Elizabeth White-Olsen, founder and director of Writespace, Houston's newest literary arts organization, and let her guide you in writing an artist's statement + bio that you will be proud of! Visual Arts Alliance will hold this members only workshop at Next Wall Gallery, 1717 Michigan Street on Saturday, June 11, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Please bring a pen, a notebook or laptop and any writing that you have done so far on your artist's statement and bio.
NOTE: While this workshop is open to artists working in any medium, most of the examples are borrowed from visual artists.
