Lydia Bodnar-Balahutrak Sturio Tour and Artist Talk

Lydia Bodnar – Balahutrak hosted VAA at her home and studio and discussed her process and the history behind the development of her work.
 
Lydia is an accomplished artist recognized worldwide! She received her M.F.A. from George Washington, Washington, D.C. and her B.S. from Kent State University, Kent, Ohio. While in DC she attended the Corcoran School of Art. Lydia has had solo shows in El Paso, Tx., The University Of Houston Art Gallery, Nauhaus Gallery and many others.
 
Lydia has had numerous awards including Artist Residency, Ukrainian Academy of Art, Kyiv, Ukraine, Creative Artist Program Award, Cultural Arts Council of Houston, and the IREX grant which enabled her to travel to for the first time to her ancestral homeland, Ukraine. “This trip opened my eyes and soul to a land beautiful but ravaged by the Soviet system, a long suffering yet hopeful people and a culture undergoing reclamation and rebirth. A deep interest in the human condition, at the heart of my painting for a long time, took new form and urgency in my creative work.”
