Breitsameter, Michael

Breitsameter, Michael VAA picture 2014

Michael was born and raised in Australia and saw much of its diverse landscape, cities, deserts, rainforests and beaches.  There was formal training in engineering, a strong appreciation of art, and the influence of a father who made his living working with many important artists in and around the museums and galleries in Sydney.

In 1990 Michael’s day job took him to Europe, providing the opportunity to travel extensively.  His interest in art blossomed and he began to get involved with interior design projects.  These projects often required art that was difficult to locate and acquire, led Michael to dabble himself, usually working with acrylic on canvas, with bold colors and dramatic contrast defining his work.  Traveling to see many of the works of the Masters at the Uffizi, the Louvre, the Tate, the Guggenheim and others across Europe provided further inspiration.

Subsequent moves to the Bay area, Toronto, Orlando, Rhode Island, and a brief stint back in Australia have provided many opportunities to find inspiration, and now based in Houston, Michael is looking to share his work on a broader scale.

Amongst his many influences Michael lists Brett Whiteley, Rothko, Pollock, Kandinsky and Leonardo da Vinci as those he admires most.
